  1. I have a husky mower at the moment, couldnt tell you a lot about it except it cuts grass, is self propelled, and seems reliable? What more is there to a mower?
  2. yes mate, we built the henge a couple of years ago

  3. Awesome pics there Liam, shame i didnt get time to shoot around the show, let alone grab a coffee:biggrin: but that was a good thing in way.
  4. I'd like to thank all those who turned up and participated in the climbing and rigging demos. Today was a cracking day, seemingly far more folk about than yesterday too. Thank you Liam (LSD) and Tim (Blue) for the effort you put in over the 2 days, thank you Toprotter for the beers () and making the effort to travel up for our little gig. Rather than a climbing comp in the normal vein, we set some targets up the Plane (same tree as last year), but the quirky twist was that each climber had to move the targets out to a further point for the next one, to attempt to make it more awkward!!
  5. Here goes day 2 then, promising start to the weather, bright and sunny here. Perhaps I'll get a chance to look around the main show today, as I ended up too busy "networking" yesterday, but thats a positive thing!! Did anyone who attended yesterday have any pics to post? Hopefully see some more of you later, dont be shy, pop over and introduce yourself:biggrin:
  6. Been a good day, eventually got a fair bit of interest, look out for the red gazebo on the left as you come down from the carpark area, before the horse loggers. Good to see several members, Toprotter from Surrey must be the furthest traveled so far, nice to see you to Woodworm, and also Andy (sorry forgot your username now). Thanks LSD for your help today, and to the future arbs who came and sat in harnesses and had a throw or 20,000 with the throwlines. If you didnt come today, pop in tomorrow and see us, send the womenfolk of to the craft areas while we talk ropes and stuff.
  7. Apparently there's a 1000yr old oak in the grounds, as well as some tall Redwoods, and some beautiful other trees.
  8. I'll take a bbq and some charcoal if anyone want to cook some food up
  9. Bring what you like, we didnt get much response so didnt bother buying in drink and food specially.
  10. I'm a shady character. I'll take your no with me and call you so you can find us when you arrive. Guessing its about a 2hr run? Brring any kit you want to use/try/demo, the more the merrier:thumbup:
  11. It may help the colleges to place ads/banners similar to that placed by Otley College to attract attention to their services. Contact Steve Bullman for details.
  12. At this rate Cerne you will win every virtual prize that never existed in the 1st place. So far we are setting up a very simple little work climb (cos if no-one comes we dont want to climb all over the place to get the targets back) up a little Plane tree, there will be a tree for throw-lining, and a tree for foot-locking (if there is any interest what-so-ever) Everyone moans that nothing is ever organised for them to go and take part in, and when you do, nobody bothers, so I'll probably be found in the bar for the day:001_rolleyes: Oh and if you do wish to just turn up ad hoc, feel free, but as for all climbing you'll need your helmets harness etc, unless you wish to climb around on a Willans nappy!
  13. Though I tend to agree with your sentiments, I do feel that the options for real change just didnt exist, ie same ol Labour, same ol Tories, and a lot of little also-rans. Sick of ones lies, you vote in the other and get their lies, one thing is for certain is that we (the tax-payers) will pay though the nose to sort out their collective mess for many years to come.
  14. 4foot is enough for most logs around here, left the chain off for transportation tomorrow, and yes Liam I'd be jealous if I didnt have it:biggrin:
  15. For those larger logs:001_rolleyes:
  16. You must be getting old David, cant you remember the pole dancing:001_rolleyes:
  17. Bumpity bumpity bump, roll up roll up all the fun of the fair, fun (rec) climb, throwlining, pole dancers beer what more could you ask for? Theres a bar on site, sunny weather, food for all tastes around the site, Archers need not apply!! Anyone wanna give me and Liam a hand either day just give us a shout here ta:thumbup:
  18. As AATechie (Paul) has said, a specific young persons r/a is necessary, and we (for example) give our student at least 1-1 supervision, and where possible we both watch every move he makes. Today, he reduced a poplar (which took ages, but thats irrelevant) but it was in a very controlled environment, a climber adjacent inspecting everything, and myself eyeballing from the ground, making sure he didnt forget the simplest things such as tieing in properly, and things that can be simply overlooked by a nervous, inexperienced person. This kind of thing can be difficult for a business to spend time on, with the time and financial pressures making impatience come to the fore, hence why I recommended the college route. Btw, he's only allowed to use a silky in the air at the moment, I think he has enough to remember without worrying about a chainsaw too!
  19. Following the initial mention here on Arbtalk I immediately took mine out of service, and took and angle grinder to all chains so it cannot be inadvertantly used by anyone grabbing out of the waste bin. These things are dangerous, I know of an incident where a worker was hit by flying debris ( a small stone) it went through the shin bone and lodged in the back of the calf. At first the local A&E thought it was a rifle bullet, and asked if he was aware he had been shot at.
  20. More like the 1930's given the economic climate:001_rolleyes:
  21. I'm sure between us we can arrange some aerial shots of the show just for you:thumbup: Weather forecast is looking good for the weekend now, so fingers crossed, and if anyone else from Arbtalk wants to pop along, please do!
  22. mtt.tr, welcome to Arbtalk! If I had my time again, and was your age, I'd get on a Arb course with a college, either the one yr NA, or 2yr ND. You will learn an awful lot more than just tieing a few knots. The lad who comes with us on work placement is doing his 1st yr of ND/Arb, and is absorbing information like a dry sponge. There are no issues with H&S, although strict guidelines must be followed. whilst studying, you can find a placement for your days away from college, which helps you see the "real world"of tree work, and if you show promise the company may even take you on at the completion of your studies. I wish you well, and hope the advice we give you helps you on your way:thumbup1:
  23. Well Nick Clegg becoming Deputy PM, I never saw that coming!! Used properly, (unlike Prescott!!) the Office of D.P.M is a very powerfull position, and probably the highest position Clegg could attain as a Lib-Dem. Going to be interesting to see how this influences and affects the political manoueverings of the new government.
  24. Theres a lot on as we discussed, FA Cup Final. Hopefully the MJ will be there as we have to move some timber in the Park anyway,2x 090 racing one another, PPE cutting demo, and whatever else I can dream up.
  25. Tighten your belts lads, it's going to be a bumpy ride for a while:001_rolleyes:
