  1. Agreed Steve, the domestic work for a major contractor probably aint worth the grief. But the highest bidder has hardly any work, owes money here and there, and is desperate for work!! Perhaps he thought he'd found a cash cow and was gonna milk it dry.
  2. Explains it then
  3. This was exactly our thoughts at the time!! I am led to believe that the lads are offered 10% of the price for finding private work, but this is capped so I'm not sure. The highest price bidder does his own pricing.
  4. Main spring??? I just pulled it apart and found a dead woodlouse curled up inside, never get this problem with my Box Brownie:confused1: I didnt know woodlice could affect pic quality:001_smile:
  5. The higher priced company has been going some time now, dont know what kit he has, the mid priced company is a very large company with masses of kit and loads of staff, and its own training centre. I'm applying for charity status! But there were no inexperienced firms quoting this one. We may have been fractionally too cheap, by about 100quid, but to be nearly a quarter of the price of the highest quote made me raise my eyebrows, it really was an easy day, not a ball-buster, and to earn 650 per day I dont think is bad in this economic time. On Josh's points, I have minimal overheads, no finance etc, each person earned good money, and a healthy profit margin to boot.
  6. Sod that!! It'll do:001_smile:
  7. I'm starting to wonder if some companies really want the work. I went to remove 2 50foot beeches from a garden. Easy access, logs and chips staying on site, an easy 2man day by any standards. We went in at 650quid, 2 other quotes were 1375 and 2200. We had 3 breaks in the day, 2x 1/2hr and an hour for lunch, no rigging or anything complicated, just cut and drop. Apparently the chap who quoted 2200, kept ringing to see why he didnt get the job. We tried to calculate why someone would have priced this job so high, and indeed if we'd got the pricing so wrong in this case, but couldnt have justified in any way more than 750 tops.
  8. Apparently they cant even do that!!
  9. Had a play with the camera settings so here's a test pic, to see if its any better
  10. I seem to have damaged the lens on my camera on the phone, as it was sharp as when I first had it, but quality is now very poor:001_rolleyes:
  11. I know sweet fa about this "sport", but how on earth can a national team succeed with a foreigner at the helm? And a foreigner whose grasp of the national language of the team he represents, is pretty poor? Do his directions get lost in translation? 'm glad I havent wasted 180 odd minutes of my life watching this rubbish:001_rolleyes:
  12. Are you more annoyed by the fact you're getting paid late, than your colleague getting cash in hand? If he is responsible for driving the team to site, hauling kit and chipper about, his "ticket" is equally or more important than your climbing certs. He is required by law to have a driving licence, spent money getting his licence etc, the company cannot function without a driver!! If you are employed on the books, you're getting paid holiday as well, if he's cash in hand he only gets paid when he works. Is the late payment a regular occurrence, or is it a one-off? I'm sure most companies try to keep their staff happy, but times are tight, and maybe your boss hasnt even paid himself in preference to pay you guys? Of course, if you arent happy with the situation, you can always try to find alternative employment.
  13. Nice to meet you Tobias, glad you enjoyed the show:thumbup1:
  14. He'll be needing a hand now and then:001_smile:
  15. Hell, I'd have chucked a tent in the motor, kipped down for the week, popped home for the weekends:001_rolleyes:
  16. Some beautifuly smudgy shots taken through a dirty smeary screen. The Ash had blown over into a Horse Chestnut, over a ond full of very smelly water, and black goo. We used the MJ crane to re-direct the winch cable from the Landy, so we could get the limbs and butt to the bank. The erosion of the bank meant we coudnt get close enough with the crane to just use that. Anyway all hoofed out now:biggrin:
  17. I was just thinking "wow, wish I could take pics like that!" then read your post and thought "I can!!"
  18. Cheers here too for prompt reliable service as ever, waiting for me when I got in:thumbup:
  19. Any takers yet Stevie?
  20. I knew that:001_rolleyes: (not) I googled Staverton Park in Daventry.
  21. so busted
  22. Guessing its about an hour and a half or so away, and no I've never been. I'll have t put that on my "to do" list!!
  23. Nice piccies, was talking to my local T/O today, who went, wished I'd come along now:001_smile:
  24. You dont realise how near the truth you are Frank!!
  25. I've just spent the afternoon splitting oak for a client, after cutting up a rather large bough that dropped the other week. Nice easy little earner, just thump thump thumpity thump of the maul on oak. No hot chainsaw gear, radio on....bliss.
