Is that its typical growth pattern? Starts off with alternate leaves then becomes very much one sided. -
Fig 8 as a termination knot you mean, yes to that and a Blake’s, and strop as second anchor fine. Only thing that’s changed is your are supposed to now have 3 points of attachment, ie 2 main lines. In reality few bother.

Finish doesn't have to be amazing and i'm pretty much working with the tools I have. Belt sander is about as pro as I get, although im getting through the belts fairly due to the staples. Knocked them in as far as I can. Probably just going to pull out the worst of the splinters with pliers to be honest 😳

Making some rustic stands out of cable reels for the shop. Usually I sand down and stick some danish oil on followed by wax, but with these i'm probably not going to sand them down smooth enough so will be hard to apply wax. Plus i'd like a bit of a rougher finish on them anyway. What would you recommend to treat them with?
