  1. It has its advantages for sure. I wish I could gel with it like a lot of you guys have
  2. Gutted for you mate, but admire your attitude!
  3. Got a piece of gear you like and wish to write about? The new review section is now live on Arbtalk and I am slowly moving content from the old review pages. We would love to hear of your experiences with any of the existing gear reviewed, or totally fresh products. Forest and Arb are sponsoring a competition coming soon, the best(most popular) review submitted on Arbtalk over the course of a month will be the lucky winner of a pair of HAIX chainsaw boots. There will also be a runner up prize. Details of this will be confirmed next week. So if you are able to put together a well written review this is just a little heads up Reviews here https://arbtalk.co.uk/arborist-reviews/
  4. 230 for me personally. It is a pleasure to feed in my opinion, also I think its the only one out of those 2 that is under 750kg if that is a consideration for you.
  5. How you getting on with these now you've had longer in them James? How do they wear compared to the Geckos do you know? I know nothing about Carbon, but is the quality of it consistent or is there carbon fibre and carbon fibre
  6. Never climbed on longer gaffs. Do you find they put more strain on your ankles and knees?
  7. That’ll be a job for someone to fell soon then
  8. That’s surprising. I had no milking problems at all
  9. That’s much how I imagined it would handle
  10. Thats me out then, always drop my saw
  11. Its a right of passage most of us have been through one way or another. Bottom line is, despite all your tickets all you will be doing in the early stages is holding up the job and costing the employer money. I barely climbed at all for the first couple of years of my employment. I would get sent up the odd tree here and there as time allowed, which just makes the learning process even longer. My employer subbed me out to another firm 2 years in, and that is when my climbing really kicked up a notch. I was thrown in at the deep end a little, and had no one to fall back on so simply had to perform..sink or swim. Simillar to Stevie Blair really except I was thrown into it rather than throwing myself into it.
  12. I looked at these a while back....do you not find it too long?
  13. There was lots I loved about it. I still have all the gear and would consider it for use on certain trees. Generally though I found it a bit of a faff and not at all fluid like Ddrt. That was my main issue with it. I gave it 6 months in the hope things would change, and that was religiously, I didn't touch my Ddrt set up in that time.
  14. Now you tell me..I do that all the time Whats wrong with that? I always sharpen my saw on site. I have more important things to be doing in the evenings!
  15. I don't adhere to the theory that everyone should start on a prussik and nothing but. If I was taking someone on a rec climb, then maybe yes it would be an easy system to just throw on and let them get on with it. So what i'm saying it, as long as you are competent and have a good level of common sense, and some understanding of the forces involved then I don't see any reason why SRT can't be adopted at any time really. Good luck with it. I made the switch but switched back to Ddrt again. I did give it 6 months but just decided it wasn't for me
  16. Years ago I was sent to dismantle a reasonably sized poplar tree. Job spec was to get it on the deck, customer to deal with rubbish. turned up aks the garden was absolutely covered in the biggest piles of dog crap you’ve ever seen, the culprit an Irish wolfhound. As there was no clear up involved I strategically navigated the garden and proceeded up the tree. These piles of crap were so big I could actually see them from 70ft up the tree. It gave me some nice target practise for dropping the timber into
  17. Spot on . It’s all about marketing yourself to the right client base
