Yet another reccomend me a wood burner thread!

Hi all

As the title says, I'm after recommendations for a log burner for the living room (open fire currently) please. I'm not interested in paying just for a name, but I don't mind paying for quality that will last.

The room is about 4.7 x 4.3m, and not too high - but I'd like the burner to warm some of the rest of the house too (old house, quite open plan downstairs), without making the living room too hot to exist in. An online calculator recommends a 3KW burner based on the room dimensions, but I'd like to go a little larger. Less than 5KW, as I don't want to have to install an air brick. The room (and house) are fairly draughty, so ventilation won't be a problem! I'll probably have a room kit fitted, so the burner can take most of its air supply from outside.

I'd like a single door stove, glass window, flat top (for stove top fan, maybe even a kettle!). I'd like the burner to sit out of the fireplace a bit, so more heat goes to the room, and not just into the chimney breast. (Though a stove installer I spoke to at Treefest said this would be difficult / illegal! Wasn't entirely clear why, so don't think I'll be using him!)

Any suggestions, please? I know Morso are (or at least used to be) good, but I'm not sure what their current offerings are like. Used a little Villager over the weekend, and that was a neat little thing, but the top had rusted a fair bit, and it was only a year or so old...

Thank you.

Thanks Stubby.

Clearview seem to be well thought of too. But then everyone seems to recommend the stove they have!

Yep . I have had it for 5 winters now . Was toying between Morso . Clearview and Burley . Picked the Burley Hollywell as it boasts 89% efficiency and I preferred the uncluttered looks , big window and very simple operation . Only 2 controls the air slide and the door . Easy peasy to light and control and seems to punt out more than its stated 5KW . Check em out .
