I'm no expert, but isn't there, potentially, a fundamental flaw with the concept and use of VPNs, "discreet" search engines and "access only" areas of the tinterweb?

My logic would be that as soon as someone subscribes to something that purports to provide "discretion / or privacy" it simultaneously runs up a flag, which says to those that might want / need to know what's going on behind the cloak of anonymity, where to look...

Like putting all the dodgy geezers in one place and providing a target where to focus all the attention.

Hide in the wide open has been shown to be an effective method (to a point) for some very effective, noncy, scumbags - Saville for example.

I suppose it depends on what it is you're trying to achieve.

'Discreet' search engines, such as duck duck go, are great in terms of personal privacy.  Since using it, I'm no longer innundated by adverts relating to things I've already searched for and bought.  It actually takes some getting used to, Google reaches into our web based activity far more than you might be aware of.

VPN's are useful if you want to protect yourself from malicious attacks.  Static IP Adresses are generally vulnerable.  the use of a VPN can help mitigate that risk.

You're right about catching a bad bunch though.  The TOR browser, which is a method of supposedly anonimously accessing the 'Dark' Web, has been proven to be hacked by the powers that be, and monitored for nefarious activity.

Most private codes can be cracked if you throw enough processing power at it.

VPNs are completely legal and governments, companies, universities all use them for increased security.

I would be careful of some of the free VPNs though as they have to make money somehow. Just make sure you do your homework and check they're not logging your data/activity. The best VPNs provide you with both security and privacy.

The Italians had a general election. A third of the electorate voted for an anti EU party. Another third voted for an anti migrant party. I assume the remaining third are morons?

Well done Italy! Don't listen to the BBC sneering at people voting for "populist" parties!

Very little MSM coverage also. I wonder why that is....

I'll be keeping any hedge porn I find from now on

Does hedge porn still exist?  When I was at school it could be found in any urban woodland, haven't seen any for at least 15 years.  Maybe Natural England has different priorities in your region.
