Looking on my phone so can't read text of picture. Does it refer to the authorities being warned 5 times about the guy and not acting on the information?

Today's headline in The Times.....

"UK Home to 23,000 Jihadists"

I can understand the concerns over this issue.

I don't know the stats but it's plain to see that this thread has seen the most traffic.

Irrespective of the subject matter, if I was a stakeholder in this forum I would have concerns about whether this is detracting from the main purpose of the forum.

I also know of one member who told me he rarely posts pictures of his work anymore as he finds that a lot of people just want to pick it to pieces, which is a real shame as it would be a valuable contribution. I'm not trying to be unduly critical of an excellent forum and industry resource but I say this because the "lounge" issue isn't the only thing that puts people off Arbtalk.

I remember when I was new to it a small number of people were sometimes quite unkind to me, because of my beliefs, but, hey ho..,

Perhaps a solution to the lounge political/religion threads attracting people who come along to" grind axes" that never get used on trees, would be to not allow "members" into the lounge until they had earned their entry by virtue of a reasonable amount of participation and contribution on the Arb-related areas of the forum.

Steve... you need harder bouncers at the lounge mate.... (sorry, couldn't resist) [emoji106][emoji846]

Sorry, I meant the main text of the story. I can read the smaller headline about the Manchester bomber escaping surveillance and wondered if it was to do with the information that his family and community had reportedly warned the authorities 5 times about him without any action being taken. Haven't been out for the papers yet. :blushing::001_smile:

His family were hardcore Islamists. His father was an asylum seeker from Libya because he was a hardcore Islamist. His Iman (the one that led the minutes silence) fought Gasaffis forces in Libya.

Was it them that informed the authorities?

Arbtalk is much more like a town full off tree folk with lots of pubs. In one of the pubs people are discussing religion and politics.

If you are in the mood to discuss chainsaws you can go into the chainsaw pub and give the religion/politics pub a miss.

The religion/politics pub is pretty packed suggesting that people are happy to spend time there.

If you don't like the atmosphere just drink up and move to another watering hole. There are plenty of excellent pubs in Arbtalk town.

Quite so, well put! What is it with people?

"...Whaaaa, I don't like it, make it stop Mummy..."

When did it all become somebody else's responsibility to monitor, filter, cleanse and sterilise what individuals choose to say, read, discuss? (notwithstanding of course, it is the personal choice of site owner / mods to take what ever action they see fit with their site.)

What's with all the ban it, shield me, protect me from the nasty people. Why isn't there a 'hide" button etc...

There IS, just don't read what doesn't interest you - simples!

I suspect you may be over-thinking the matter, Dan. Ignore them, leave them arguing with themself and ban when it gets silly, if not before. Never argue with an idiot because they will just drag you down to their level where they have the greater experience.:001_smile:

:thumb up: No point engaging an unarmed man in a battle of wits!!

All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. It's good for the forum that it's members( who share the same occupation or interest) can discuss matters that's important to them that are off topic

Agreed, and exercise th freedom to engage (or not) as suits...

So to sum up the main news from last week: Terrorist attacker kills 22 at concert attended by many children. 8 people have been arrested so far.

Is this not a reasonable topic for discussion in a thread called "making the news today"? Are the motives of the attacker not a reasonable topic for debate?

I get this is a website dedicated to trees. However we've also got familys and we do things like go to concerts in our spare time.

I've a question for the people that want to ban discussions: Would you allow discussion on politics/ religion/ terrorism if it was an arbtalk user iinjured in a terrorist attack?

Change the fukcing record Matelot.

Yes, it was an atrocious event. The situation in the UK is a bit of a mess at the moment. But I think we all realise that.

You have made that point so many times over the last 20 or 30 pages. It seems your posts are purely made just to incite controversy.

As you seem to be an expert on UK politics, Terrorist activity, extremism and anything else you have an opinion on...

Have you not noticed the timing of these events? Major terrorist activity just before major politic events...

Brussels, just before the Brexit vote.

Westminister and Manchester, just before a General Election.

Plus others.

Food for thought.
