Speaking from bitter personal experience, it is quite annoying. I lost a good jacket and pair of jeans that way

When we were late teens I went with my mate to an army surplus store in Edinburgh, big event but had to be done because no internet shopping or shops like that locally.

He got a pair of urban combats and was well chuffed with them. Next night we were mucking about and he ended up with a broken ankle. I couldn't believe when I saw him after he was on crutches with a cast on his foot and shin on top of the combats. He wouldn't let them cut the trousers so ended up cast still wearing them. Going to Edinburgh was a big thing back then!

Good places, army surplus stores. Great source of cheap but well made and robust work wear. As long as you don't mind the camo and slight musty smell! Can be good for heavy duty tools and other random stuff too.
