I've not read the article, but I can only guess most people on arbtalk are well adjusted types 30+ years of age.

We've all grown up with 1980s gory films, video games (ok graphics have gotten more real) and turned out well adjusted.

The only real change that I can see is the overwhelming reach of social media and 24/7 news.

You can't help but also notice the constant mental health excuses wheeled out everywhere, not saying there is not a problem but if the media is to be believed there must be a huge increase compared to historical figures.

Imposing higher rates of income tax on residents in Scotland has triggered a decline in revenues...

heres one for Mark J !!.
Not surprisingly since the SNP upped the tax rates in Scotland the actual tax take has fallen. The socialist desire to take from the hard working to spend as they see fit does not seem to be quite working out as envisaged. I know from my own experience since the tax rises up here  that guys have hit a point and stopped working deeming the sacrifices vs rewards just not worth it. I often wonder if the 25% across the board concept  after say a 15k tax free start would bring in more long term than all the various bands.

Government Expenditure and Revenue Scotland (GERS) is a National Statistics publication. It estimates the revenue...

Here's one for you mate, the full facts and not just a Murdoch soundbite.

I'm not disputing that some of your friends have stopped working as the tax imposed makes it seem to be a bad proposition. Personally I'd pay a decent accountant some money and crack on, but each to their very own.

Lol Mark it’s the newspaper reporting the IFS report bud 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️ It’s all over the news up here bud, sorry if you don’t want to hear it. The link you posted is the governments own site 🤷‍♂️. Or does Murdoch manage the IFS source too??. Dispute it if you want or dont Mark it makes no difference to me I’m telling you the truth. 41% up here after 43k 40% after 50k over the border stick some NI on and bang your at 50%. Maybe it’s the thought of giving half your wages to the snp for being away from your family for weeks at a time but lads are knocking back trips to stay at a certain level. A tax system that encourages you not to work is a failure As the drop in revenues have proven. A decent accountant or not you can only get the figures down so far legitimately especially as ltd companies are not allowed in many cases nowadays post IR35. You wouldn’t work for half your day rate Mark, not even to fund your socialist crush Sturgeon. Please don’t quote some shite about NSea oil as that mad bunch of fools were until a few weeks ago wanting to shut the whole bloody place down to keep her green majority vote partners sweet.

Just been reading the report you put the link up to Mark 🤷‍♂️ what was it that you thought was gonna  contradict the reported drop in tax revenues caused by increasing tax rates ??.

If your limited company can't survive post IR35 then you weren't really running a viable business in the first place; you were just a subby/'employee' who used to direct a limited company for its benefits within current tax law. I and companies I work with definitely benefitted from the breaks offered by IR35, luckily I don't keep all my eggs in one basket.

Don’t be a pretentious dick Mark. I don’t operate ltd company offshore by the way and mine is surviving just fine on the stuff I do outside of UK continental shelf oil and gas etc, but many whom did and now can’t are not falling foul  of IR35 but rather a blanket ban on using ltd company contractors as it’s too much hassle or risk to the big players to run the checks who used to hire thousands of them. Who benefits from this ?? Certainly not the guy grafting, possibly Hmrc but normally some parasite agency running umbrella set ups. You totally ignored the point of my reply and the fact that high tax rates are reducing actual tax take in Scotland
If IR 35 is so  great ( which most experts agree it’s not and has failed in its remit)  explain the link ?? and how you benefitted from it as opposed to the normal ltd company set up you have mentioned in the

Latest department to bodge the taxman’s off-payroll rules takes his public sector windfall for...

The Home Office is the latest ministerial department to be hit with a multimillion-pound tax...

I can put these up all night and dozens of statements by financial experts stating IR35 is not fit for purpose.
