It’s the same up Norf Egger.

Put a shaved monkey in a cheap suit with a red rosette and the clowns would have him in Parliament.

(PS Staffs moorland is

s Norf MIDLANDS - otherwise I’ve married a norfener and that wouldnt do!)

Phew, glad I came out of the Norf Midlands, wouldn't want folk thinking that sort of thing  about me.

That would get you battered in my ex local when I was in the Midlands. Someone sarcastically asked the landlord (Hartlepool lad) "who hung the monkey" one night, it didn't end well.

I have always found them rather proud of it.

I met one in a French bar, called him a monkey hanger, he was happy that his little town was so famous, this was before I spoke much French so my BiL explained the story to the locals, the French considèred it hilarious.

Seemed to be when I was around the Midlands 20-odd years back, I only remember the expression from football chants from years back. Probably shouldn't have set his lip up.

Not any more, with the exception of Merseyside. You will have to go further North into Scotland, those clowns will.

It was a sweeping generalisation with obvious exceptions - the football mansions and all the leaches that suck up the crumbs from it being an obvious case in point.

No small amount of irony attached to the working class origins of the FA leading to the establishment of some of the greatest wealth disparity in the UK - especially when it really stretches the bounds of meritocracy that such wealth is derived from little more than an ability to kick a ball.

Meh....
