He was no more cowardly than all the wartime concientious objectors, cant beleive they let them get away with it. So whats the best way to tackle someone with a rambo knife if there really is no weapon in reach? In my karate days the instructor could have probably snapped his neck,  abut a normal civvy will likely die.

They could have written off the already stabbed cop as collateral damage and rammed the pair with the car, but i guess the occupants were thinking 'there are armed officers here who will be on the scence hopefully in a few seconds' and there were. If fatty had proved his worth and had a go hed have bled out i reckon. A brave move would have been all in the car to rush the slim, boss had assistant too that together could possibly have overwhelmed rambo slim

I dont know if Id have had the courage to tackle him bare handed, every chance I would have scampered off to join the other cowards in the land of the living. But Im pretty sure my old instructor could have taken him out bare handed - the only hard man Ive met, dont usually mix with ruffians

It's a really tough call...

 

As much as I dislike the man, James O'Brien progressed a line of thought about this the other day.  His suggestion was that the dull witted are more likely to react intuitively because their thought processes are slower than the sharp witted who are able to process the scenario and make an appropriate judgement call more quickly.

 

Dull witted - rush in regardless of the potential consequences

Sharp witted - analyse the implications and make an informed decision

His analysis omitted certain key realities like leadership by example, responsibility, loyalty, team cohesion.  By looking at what could loosely be described as a similar scenario (Tobias Ellwood / Keith Palmer), but with opposite personal actions, it's clear to see these instantaneous judgement calls are subject to exceptional personal character differences.

 

I don't think it's necessarily fair to be critical of the bloke for his actions at that time in that place - because they were his shoes not mine.

 

But, having been tested, in what could be considered the ultimate manner (life v loyalty) and having chosen as he did, to remain in post is not an honourable outcome.

A lot of ‘conscientious objectors’ went on the front lines and carried stretchers.
