Steady on old chap....you almost sound like just another bitter socialist!

How many other industries have we let die because they are not economic? Coal mining/ shipbuilding etc was allowed to die and that ripped the heart out of many communities.

I just dont don't see the argument that farming is a special industry that deserves billions in subsidy..... Calling me a "bitter socialist" is hardly going to make me change my mind ;)

Brilliant why didn’t we vote you into power. All would be solved!
I wonder how you would cure immigration emoji848.png

My dad owns a business. The commercial property he runs his business from is worth about £200k. The rates bill he pays on this property is £10k a year. Yet a farmer with a farm worth a couple of million pays zero in rates.

Is that natural justice? Why should a businessman pay zero business rates just because he's a farmer?

Yeah, another thought provoking post Richard.

Correct me if I'm wrong. Your dad is a farmer? It's hardly surprising that you are on here posting how good farming subsidies are ;)

Both right and wrong!

Yes he’s a farmer but no longer actually “farms” in the traditional sense and strangely he does pay business rates but don’t let little facts get in the way of your narrative.

As for subsidies I’ve already mentioned at least twice that getting rid would be ok if the problem of getting a decent price for produce could be sorted.

I think it would be brilliant idea to make all food really expensive and then see how much people moan about that[emoji16]Ban imports until our food has been used. So imports only as a top up to cover the shortfall.

That last paragraph is not a joke btw

The cost of food in the shops stays about the same.

Can you explain how the price of food would stay the same please?

Surely with less revenue in the form of subsidy it would have to make up on sale price.

Who takes the loss ASDA?

out of interest you are aware food banks are on the rise so people can’t afford to eat as it is never mind if food went up to balance loss of subsidy.

I think the problem with you matey boy boy is you have an I’m alright Jack attitude.

People could/can afford to eat, if they bought staples and cooked,

I do accept money may be tight if surviving on constant take aways or ready meals.

Anyway apparently most/all/anyone can afford a bling phone, and the associated user costs.

never mind the fags booze and bingo.

From 45 years worth of personal observations in the local community, and wider world.

mth.

There’s truth to what you say but food banks are still on the rise, do you think if food went up in price people would stop smoking or get rid of their contract phone? I don’t, they'd carry on as is and carry on visiting food banks.

Obviously we aren’t talking small price hikes if farmers lost subsidies food would rocket up and people who are getting by now month to month would drop into that vulnerable bracket and would need handouts or food banks.

Its easy for matey boy to spout his guff, he never looks at the big picture.

It’s easy for you to spout your guff too!

Food bank use is on the rise because they are available, as Marcus says.
People have their priorities all wrong! Food is far too cheap! The gov. should tax luxury items and fast food shite!

Completely agree fast food, ready meals and such should be taxed to make that kind of food unnatractive but it’s not going to happen. Also to make shitty food and drink unnatractive you’d also have to make proper food more affordable so people can get chicken, fish, beef etc at the cost of fast food and ready meals otherwise it’s pointless people will just pay more for the convenience and ease of fast food.

As for food food banks just being there well that’s kind of a chicken and egg argument isn’t it they are there because there’s a demand maybe you can’t see that as you don’t need them.

Again do you think people will lose all the Tech, fags and booze because food goes up?
