The true scandal is that that amount of money (and disruption to the business of government) is being invested in a building which is entirely unsuited to its modern purpose.

It should be partially mouth-balled and partially opened as a public access monument with the seat of government relocated to a modern, fit-for-purpose, self sufficient building / complex which provides accommodation and conferencing facilities for MP and the mechanics of government (maybe in Milton Keynes.)

It is the DUTY of public servants to exercise due diligence, VfM, accountability and thrift when spending tax payers money.  This is as blatant an example of the opposite of that as might be imagined.

I agree with most of this but, Milton Keynes!

Even our politicians don't deserve such punishment.

Maybe better to send them to Coventry.

I agree.  I reckon they should build further north to make use of their new train set.

We've had this conversation before haven't we?  Didn't we settle on Brum?

An old military base somewhere remote, easy to provide security.  The saving on residence exposes and (especially for Abbot, taxi fares) would be immense!

How does that work then ? xD

The most historically significant areas maintained and opened to the public, the back room areas reduced to a state of dormancy - minimum maintenance to prevent decay.

Had a similar conversation with Dr Mynors the night before the Barchams seminar he did a year or 2 back...  He wasn't buying it, but what could he possibly know about historic buildings....  :D
