The "climate scientists" are on the take.

 

They're scientists, of course they get paid. If you thiink they're bad, wait till you get to the theologians.

My own pet theory is Climate Change and the science behind it are being used to scare the populace to move over to renewable's. Not because renewable energy is better, or cleaner, but because if we don't move over in time, the worlds going to fall off an economic cliff edge we can never recover from..

 

During my time researching peak oil, it dawned on me that there was a correlation between a tipping point in climate change and when oil was expected to cause economic ruin if an alternative couldn't be found in time..

 

Thats not to say the science is wrong, or the fears aren't justified that things might go from bad to worse, but the elephant in the room is what do we use when the oil's running down?..

 

How bad it gets if climate change happens is anyones guess, how bad it gets if the oil supply is interrupted takes no guesswork at all..

Might be something to your theory. But since the peak oil scare new reserves have been discovered (USA), extraction techniques have evolved and other sources of energy discovered, gas etc. Also there's still coal. Vast, vast fields of coal. All these finds, supplemented by green tech where appropriate, better infrastructure and more efficient vehicles and industry... Should keep us going for hundreds of years.

I agree, what swung it in my mind a few years ago they were on about a passage north of america opening up from the ice for first time, glossing over the fact it was open in the 1800's. I remember when I was at school the doom and gloom was the hole in the ozone and that was gonna kill us all. Never mentioned now. They come up with this stuff to get funds to pay themselves to research this waffle

You're not thinking straight Dan.

 

When scientists worked out that CFC's were depleting ozone in the atmosphere the world took action and banned the use of CFC's in new appliances, aerosols etc. The ozone layer then stopped depleting and began to recover.

 

Do you and hairychest really believe that the worldwide community of highly professional and respected scientists are all just mercenaries making stuff up for the highest bidders?

 

To hold that view suggests to me a need to be sectioned. It's totally bonkers.

Yes, surprising that the US rates 12th per capita but also fairly irrelevant. The US is home to a lot of capitas, and is the country who has contributed most greenhouse gas emmisions over time.

 

As a country, they have the most to answer for, and it is pretty disgraceful that they don't see their obligation to help the rest of the world try to find a solution.

 

It is worth pointing out that there are 183 countries with less emmissions per capita than the US who are not sticking up their middle fingers to the world.

 

In fairness to the yanks VI they have been on the the case for far longer than us in europe, half the cars made here could not be exported to the US because they failed to meet their strict emission standards . On another note they are reliant on energy for air con in just about every car, shop,office,factory or house in the south where they fry and heating for just about everything in the north where they freeze. There are no easy answers for the Americans and with the financial hole they are in I dont think they can finance a solution.

The massive fines imposed on London for piss poor air quality by the EU are an example of an impossible situation. Just stop everyone using their cars is the answer, simple. Enforce that , best of luck.

Maybe, but the timescales the scientists are dealing with are vast, if their climate predictions don't come to fruition within forty years of their initial estimates then that really is a drop in the ocean in a climate change timeline. No one can dispute that the climate is on the shift- how much of that we are ready to take the blame for is up to you

 

It's easier not to believe in human impact on the environment as it starts to be come an inconvenience altogether- much easier to bury your head and crack on without further regard.

 

I'm sure unscrupulous scientists/world leaders could make far more financial gain from exploiting the environment (DT come to mind).But it is short sighted and unsustainable thinking.

I wouldn't count on hundreds of years, more like decades..

 

If you ever get round to reading reports about coal fields or gas fields and they mention a hundred years worth of supply, be sure to take notice of the qualification.. at current rates of use..

 

what might last a hundred years at current rates of use, might end up being ten years if production is ramp up..

What's also interesting is that the met office spends millions of pounds and has people with hundreds of years worth of experience between them yet they still can't tell me what tomorrow's weather is going to be with much certainty[emoji16]
