Dad Ripped of by ..........

Similar happened to my dad living alone wit some dementia. He paid £150 to someone one day for some gardening and then £700 for the same bloke to prune a few trees and tidy up a few days later. I only got to hear about it when dad was asking what the cheque was for. Call the police and they came straight over, about 10 pm. The police man suggested we called the bank to stop the cheque but cuz dad could not answer the security questions we could not do it then. I had power of attorney but had not set this up for phone contact. I took the next morning off work to stop the cheque. The bank messed up and paid out. CCTV showed me coming in and showing the cheque book asking for the cheque to be stopped so dad got his money back. Thing is the bar steward ended up with the £700. Never saw him again though probably just as well cuz not sure I would have acted within the law an would have ended up in more trouble than him. GET THE CHEQUE STOPPED TOMORROW ASAP. If it is clear that he has been ripped of then it is fraud!

Pretty grim, at least it was only £130 and the scum done a tiny bit of work.

To go round and give him a doing over might cost you more than that and a criminal record!

Is it worth it?

I don't know! Ask eggs!

Why would you want to ask me?

Do you think this is a wise move ? After all these folk don't give a damn about the law and will you be able to protect your father when the guy comes to his door and demands his money? It was £130 !! Not £1300 he may of done a bad job and you could of done it 10 times better, personally I would let it go.

Lots of this going on in our area at the moment, as stated scrap is less lucrative. Trading standards and the Police do take this seriously but without details of the vehicle and person may prove problematic, even if the cheque is traced. Also in this case is being "over charged" a criminal or just a moral offence, one for the courts to decide. Get the old boy a small cctv system, cheap as chips and a good deterrent, and may stop further callers. if all else fails call the massive!!!!!!

Stumpy, I'd let it go, onerous as it may seem. Your dads elderly and they know where he lives.

A mate had a van pinched, under the eyes of CCTV and tracked them down. He is the sort to bang heads but realised that if there was retaliation he wasn't at home 24/7 for his wife and kids.

His revenge was to visit the site in the wee hours and to urinate in their drinking water containers. Petty and unpleasant- maybe, but it satisfied his desire for revenge.

Do what you can to prevent this happening again, a panic button maybe.

Good luck
