Unbelievable modern mentality!

A village near us has unfortunately lost a very large Turkey oak from its churchyard. The tree was believed to be over 250 years old.

As a result, the local parish council decided it would be a great idea to keep a momento of the said tree by getting a local carver to sculpture a piece of timber into a fitting scene of the village.

After much love, time and effort had been put into this work of art, there are several different parts of the sculpture showing kids playing, people with dogs, horses, old folk chatting etc. The sculpture was a true reflection of the rural area it was to sit in.

The site chosen and prepared, this is how it looks now its finished, with a lovely fence around it;

Might have been preferable judging by the pic! Only my opinion mind.

Not altogether sure about these "works of art" There was one on the canal down at Preston called "Gauging the ripple". Dirty great bloke withhis hands clasped looking down at the water. No-one knew it as gauging the ripple of course - everyone called it "The Ribble Piddler"

After five years it was discovered that it was rotting and possibly going to land on someone so it was removed. Cost British waterways over 20k to install and about another 5k to remove - money that would have been much better spent on replacing leaky lock gates and plugging holes in the canal if you ask me - or 99.9% of boaters on the canal.
