I bought a second hand Tom Tom Go live for about £60 I think it was . about £200 new . been faultless .

 

They are good when they work. I had one that the Bluetooth kept turning its self on and off when I was on the phone, chucked it out the van window on the A11 in the end, never bothered me again.

I bought a tomtom start 25 with free updates from Argos last week. Not got traffic updates but it has lane assist. My old one was way out of date and tried to take us through pedestrian precincts and missed new slip roads so it has been pensioned off. It tried to take us through an estate but there were pop up bollards on two of the roads to only allow buses.

Got a tom tom 1 about 4 years old. Pretty good and beat my mates newer garmin when we used them side by side. All have limitations and local knowledge will win, but most will get you there, albeit often not the fastest route.

I have bought refurbished Tom Toms frim their website. Never had a problem with them.

 

Also use 'Here' app on my phone. Just download the maps you need and away you go. Doesn't have to use any data but keep a phone charger handy.

 

If going to France or somewhere, you can download the maps and then delete them when you come back, saves memory space.

Google maps on Android been fine for me. Just have to make sure I have in car charger with me!

Google maps on an Android phone beats my built-in car satnav every time.

Navmii on my iPhone.

 

It's free. It's the reason I got interested in smart phones in the first place. Was going to buy a new GPS but my mate was using it while giving me a lift somewhere. It's just as good as my old Tomtom. It does the traffic thing for free too.

 

Or use google maps with Siri. Ask it to give you directions to somewhere and it (mostly) just does it. Dead handy.

 

I've got a holder thing for the car and a lighter socket charger lead.

 

If you've got a smart phone, there's no need to buy a Satnav.

I use google maps on iphone. Its good, but if i'm stuck in a bad area it doesn't work which sucks. Its ok once its set up from a decent location though and it won't just fail as you enter a bad area.

There was supposed to be an update where it stored all the maps without need for a connection for that reason, agree it's the best method though

Stop being so tight 😂 get a tomtom go 5000 from amazon for £180. World wide maps with free sim/traffic for life. Job done!
