I take it you mean the danger of tracking/winching too far and crushing the climber at the top, and/or hitting obstacles on way up.

That, and the extra force tearing out an anchor point if the system got snagged.

If you're really too old, fat, lazy or generally knackered to get up a tree buy one of them wrapt or things.

I've been pulled up a tree by 3 burly groundies before, for funsies, but I'd never let myself or entwine get winched up.

I have a krab on bridge to a 20cm strap to krab ZZ. It is just long enough to pull the rope from underneath the ZZ straight through it but short enough to handle and descent with ease. You can practically walk up the tree, it's a great set up and so simple.

The thing is with a foot ascender is....you are using one of the strongest muscles in your body to power you up!

So Paul ...you use your pecker then ?

Has no one tried a petzl double hand ascender above the zz and a pantin.

I havnt tried it yet but imagine it will be good.

Ill post back when ive had a go.

This is the way I ascend. Once I'm where I need to be I just clip it to my harness. Double ascended works great.
