Spruce, glorious spruce. Well it wasn't actually me cutting it, rather one of the guys. Nice stuff though. Flies through the processor.

Sorry for the hi-jack, but does Spruce make good firewood? Only asking as I have three to remove soon so may keep it.

Yes - there's no such thing as bad firewood!

It catches light easily and gives off a lot of heat.

 

Forest grown is better. Trees in a garden/croft/field edge can have some huge knots running right through, and you end up with very odd shaped logs (which don't stack!)

But, surely, knots burn better, well leastwise Pine and Spruce knots do.

Yes but it's when it's a 4ft+ diameter spruce with knots the size of footballs running right to the centre, and the end product has to fit into a diddy wee 5kw stove

On the cream this afternoon. 3m pine getting cut at 600mm for biomass.

 

Back to cutting at 230mm on Monday, its going to feel reet slow going
