Yes - there's no such thing as bad firewood!

It catches light easily and gives off a lot of heat.

 

Forest grown is better. Trees in a garden/croft/field edge can have some huge knots running right through, and you end up with very odd shaped logs (which don't stack!)

Yes but it's when it's a 4ft+ diameter spruce with knots the size of footballs running right to the centre, and the end product has to fit into a diddy wee 5kw stove :002:

Not so bad with the right kit, like a log splitter that can drive right up to the tree, and split your 3-4ft diameter rings without having to lift them , or cut into blocks with the saw :P:fight:
