Something I saw a while ago was a postcard with your return address on it and a small section on it saying their name/contact details and then 3 tick boxes. I would be interested in tree pruning tree removal hedge cutting and they ticked the box. That they wanted * tailor it too your service.

That way if they want to reply its already sorted for them and they can post it or recycle it. Just another idea

Friend of mine used to do a lot of flyers for his gardening business and it brought him in work in the following couple of months then tailed off.

But every time he did it he picked up a few regular customers until he didn't need (or want) any more.

Thought about it myself but apart from hedge trimming the regular clients would be minimal IMO

thanks for the info guys, I reckon its a bit like a USAF bombing run, drop enough bombs you'll hit something. Hopefully it will bring in some work between now the spring hedge cutting run starts. That's a good idea about the postcards Ian, will have to look into that in more detail. cheers

Pick your target areas!

That makes sense, no good leaflet dropping at a block of flats which is probably what happens if you get others to do it for you. When I was lad ( here we go :)) the news agent I did a paper round for used to stuff the newspapers with local traders flyers. At least with a newsagent you can target an area.

Edit, words of wisdom from an old friend. " Nothing moves unless you push it"

Well....

If you got a business and you are not busy then you need to spend every awake moment you got to do something towards your goal your dream. If it means dropping leaflets then that's what you got to do. Walk till your legs wont hold your weight and then do it again. Knock doors, get in contact with the people that will give you jobs. There is no excuses, to run a successful company means you must put in the effort. In the beginning till you feel you are flying you got no other life then improving your company.

Little extreme but good sentiment.

Flyers provide the vast majority of our work. It is a tried and tested method.

The thing that most people don't understand about this method is that it has to be a long term commitment. Continued, methodical and repeated coverage of suitable targeted areas is a big commitment of resources and has to be done properly. We use it for our furniture, landscaping and tree work businesses and really our flyers operation is a business in its own right. That's why it is successful. It's not something you can do once and expect to acquire lots of work. Besides, not many people take notice of one flyer posted through the door. It's when they see them come through repeatedly that it sticks in their minds. Just like any form of advertising really. It's not rocket science. It's just that it costs money to drive to drive the message home.
