so true :thumbup1:

Hodge is right of course which is why I feel its best to have a sharpener, when you can do your own you tend to give them a quick sharpen but often so you never run on dull blades. You also get longer service life from a set by doing this. You can also sharpen a set and have them back on a machine quicker than running them down the road no matter how close the guy is, as for the free post I would imagine the cost is tacked on somewhere.

In France...?

Ty

I used to pay fortunes from my chainsaw suppliers for the service, then I googled "affûtage Angoulême" and found out where they took them, went direct, saved a few quid.

It's amazing to me that people fanny on with the most important part of a machine that costs £10k minimum.

But a few sets of blades, swap them regularly, sharpen them properly.

Cheapest money you'll ever spend.

Everyone should have at least 1 spare set. Blunt blades do the machine no good and put stress on bearings. For such an expensive bit of kit they are cheap things to buy but have a massive impact on reliability of a machine. There is no excuse for blunt blades;)

Ive heard folk say a tormek t7, watercooled grinder

Worth looking around for copies , Tormek used to be unique but now loads of people do exact copies (eg Axminxter / Jet) and you can still use the tormak jigs if necessary
