Some old friends of my parents got in touch with me earlier in the summer. They left the UK forty years ago to live in New Zealand but were back for a holiday. Turns out they won half a million on a lottery in Australia and had decided to spend some of it visiting all their friends. They were having a great time spending the cash and I was interested to discover that real people actually do win these things - been buying a ticket every week since

Once again were slagging off something on Arbtalk that we have some control over, if you don't like it don't play it but you fancy having a go then play it. I had a large win 10 years ago, it's helped me set up my business and I still play now. There are so many threads on here now where we seem to get really worked up about thing which we can control by not taking part/buying etc. I'm really changing my thinking on certain thing about Arbtalk and finding my way to deal with these thing. :)

Good post Paul. I do the lottery every week, always have and probably always will.

Do I feel conned? Not in the slightest, its my choice and my choice alone.

Not if your stuck/sucked into picking the same numbers.

The lottery know people stick to certain numbers, therefore they can exploit them. Therefore it is technically a con

You do have a choice, you just don't control 100% of it.

Only one way to win with the lottery - don't buy a ticket - save every time

Ive gone one better, only ever bought one ticket, £1.00, gave it to the kids and told them to watch and see if we won. I got half an hour of peace and quiet, a bargain for a quid

When the Florida State lottery became available the gimic or con was 7 cents of every dollar spent on the lotto went towards education. Who could possible be against the poor stupid children the educational system of Florida continues to pump out year after year.

Once the lottery was passed into law by the masses of asses the state of Florida department of education promptly cut spending across the board. Sadly a classic bait and switch perpetrated against the stupid idiots who voted this crap into law. Fast forward Florida still lags far behind many other states in all categories and all of the 7 cents collect for all of the millions of tickets sold to all of the suckers lining up every day was all for nothing but a massive fraud and lie. The students and teachers were left once again holding the bag and society suffers once again at the hands of the masses.

I did vote agains this when it was on the ballot, I don't play it as well.

The house always wins first, all suckers welcome. Good god there are a lot of suckers on either side of the Atlantic!

Tried the new lotto twice now . 5 lines each time . It shows up how the chances have widened because each time I have got no numbers at all were as before I used to get numbers on each line . Not necessarily winning but numbers cropping up . Now none .
