Happens all the time but thats business. I put on of my mowing jobs price up this year and was told a bloke down the road can do it cheaper. Hes welcome to it. Its a 4 hour job. I know what my van, mower & insurance cost me a year and what he was getting paid would not cover it. Theres allways some one round the corner that will do it cheaper. When I employee tradsmen I allways go for middle quote or of course word of mouth. I do not want to be paying to much also do not want a poor job or them to start cutting corners cause there rushing to finish so they make money . If people go for the cheapest they do not deserve a good job let the market deal the cards this customer deserves he will get a poor job. Never back down on price if its fair theres plenty of customers wanting great workmanship & willing to pay.

It doesn't hurt just baffled me a bit Ty but like I said I'm very new to this so will get used to it I'm guessing. And yes it was the customer that told me, as for bullshit, it isn't I emailed her back and said I couldn't come near the price and could only go as low as £500, her response was she would of been happy to pay that as that's what she was expecting so was also shocked at £200

No it's still BS! They made the price up ("also shocked" is just another extra fabricated old chestnut), is trying it on with some blatent lies and hoping you'll fall for it. No other contractor quoted £200, of that I'm 99% certain unless they're a proper unpro numpty.

Yes confidence plays a part prised a job few weeks back, gave the customer a price and she replys how much! I explained the jobs not simple as it was over conservatory roof all needed lowering, so I said please go ahead a get another quote! Did the job last week. She never got another quote, if she did I could of quite easily of lost it.but by being confident and saying get another quote it reassured her that she was getting a good price.

Don't worry think we all wonder how some people do it for the money. Had a quote refused today, cut down and dig out old hedge replace with 8 bays of continental panel fencing with corner posts, concrete gravel boards etc plus a skip for the old fencing. Materials cost alone is about £900 they showed me the other quote......£1000!

How did you know did you back and ask?

I reckon I only we've win around 70% of jobs I quote. It's why I hate a domestic it's a lot of running around for nothing.

I prefer commercial where we know where we stand With money they trust I'm not ripping them off and one job lasts many days
