The copper contacts in the starter motor are a pretty quick and easy change. My Fourtrak did the same, it went for 18 months on some homemade brass ones, then fitted genuine Nippon Denso ones.

Good find Wills, that will be on the shopping list. There are enough of those engines fitted in bits of our kit to justify a set of those. Its a bit late for the one on the chipper because its been beaten with a hammer for a few weeks.

 

 

I short changed the Massey of a screen guard and paid the price, less than month on site and it needs a new screen.

 

 

 

The old Massey was like this. So I suppose thats my weekend off down the swanny

The Fast track mower took a hiding on a grass cutting job when it found some concrete.

 

 

 

It bent the shaft where its welded into the drum , down about 15mm which made it vibrate like hell and throw the belts off

 

 

Managed to straighten it with a 50ton hydraulic air jack and chain.

 

 

 

 

 

Got the shaft to within half a mm which seems to have done the trick. Took a whole day though of tweeking and measuring.

Dust cover got ripped off the bellhousing on the Foden and a load of crud got dragged round the flywheel and tore the gear off the starter:thumbdown:

 

 

And another guard got ripped off

 

 

Because of this man.

I love this thread, wishing I was handy like you Aspen. I spent 2 hours trying to solder a wire on the chipper yesterday and all I accomplished was alot of melted solder on the floor and a burnt leg/hole in my tracky bottoms.

Clever idea with the air jack. How many of those bolts holding the chain in place in the flail pocket did you bend?

I was quite surprised the flail pocket didn't just rip off before the bar straightened.

Good effort getting it re-balanced too... often times there'll be something invisibly out of whack and they wobble even though everything appears to be back straight

I just got back from holiday to find the tipping body had sheered off from its hinges at the back while I was away, use and abuse from tree work
