And unless you're referring to another American, I'm no spring chicken.

 

Yes I was referring to you, which brings me to another saying, here in Bedfordshire we say "look at that ole boy" that ole boy could be 5 years old or 95.

Where I originate from the standard greeting would be "hey up duck!! 'Ow at?"

 

Which means, hello mate, how are you.

 

I did some work for a bloke from up north that kept calling me love, everytime he said it he opologised and said its a northern thing.:confused1:

Ay up = hello

yer = your

sen =self

ow art = how are you as in "ow art thou or thee" thou and thee = you

mate,bud,youth,kid,owd lad, young 'un =friend all used regardless of age and sometimes gender with the exception of owd lad :laugh1:

owd =old

snap,bait,scran =food usually your pack up for dinner

 

can't think of any more at the minute :laugh1:

Something occurred to me. Are you guys making up random words to mess with the American? :lol:

 

Never heard of ganzy overcoat , but what you have to understand is in this country ,you could live only 2-3 hundred miles apart and we cant understand each over, to me its northern irelanders and gazza,s.
