What are you burning

It tickles me that all you firewood guys burn rubbish! A real case of the cobblers shoes.

 

Had to remove a dozen small leylandii root balls a couple of years ago; I thought they were just stove size. Hid them under some good logs..... just come to light; bone dry nobody would buy them but they burn perfect, got to put them in when the fire is well burnt down as they fill the stove completely and last for hours.

Last night some mixed wood but mostly the chimney. Think i best give it good clean.

Burning some nice ash 12" logs got loads still so I thought I'd burn something decent for a change instead of keeping all the best for customers I usually burn pop or conifer. Real nice side to slowed sales. But wholesale sales busy as ever.

No need now - already done:thumbup: Nothing like a good burn up to clean a chimney - my neighbours old girl never ever swept her chimney - it got a Glasgow herald rolled up and stuffed up the chimney before being set alight every week.

 

For our part mainly willow and birch all too small to need splitting plus some odds and ends of ash, oak and sweet chesnut

Are old roof timbers ok to burn in a stove? Having one fitted in a month or so and also having the old garage knocked down and a new bigger one built. Be a shame to waste the timber coming out.

I've burned a few. I was told to be careful as they contain high levels of tars - possibly due to the pressure treatment? Seemed fine to me though, and chimney was no dirtier than usual. (I did mix them with other wood, not just roof timbers - also mine were a good age).

Builder friend burns quite a lot of his waste and the only thing that caused his stove any problems was some varnished flooring that permanently stained the glass.

 

Not sure I agree with burning any treated wood tbh, can't be good for the air my kids breath, surely working with trees people can get enough clean wood for themselves.
