Unfortunately the example given above of some one cutting themselves does have an impact on every one , as it will add to accident statistics and further H&S , PPE training , insurance etc will probably be imposed on people who do not require it and those that do will still not bother ! As for quality of work I am afraid a great deal of people do not know or care that much as long as nothing is damaged / broken and the site is tidied up well and it is cheap , To be honest though you do not usually see these sorts doing any difficult tree work , usually garden type stuff . Rules and regs are a bit pointless really unless they are enforced but it has always been that way but then others seem to get caught out on the most petty thing . It only really matters when things go seriously wrong which thankfully I think is pretty rare !.

Let them get on with it. They will never improve and will never become realistic rivals.

If you want to take photos - take ones of really good tree work and aspire to that.

Concentrate on looking up - not down.

I spend a fair amount of time in my area 'competing' with other chaps who are apparently qualified, but when it comes to it seem less then capable of doing the job.

Yes, it peeves me off seeing the BS standard of work they produce, but the simple fact is, I get my work done and when there is a standoff in consultancy terms, 9 times out of 10, I get my way because the other companies are just spouting the usual rather than taking into account individual circumstances.

Ultimately, someone else doing a bad job in your area actually promotes you as being the guy to work with.

Ok so a bit of a rant and know doubt this will split the masses on opinion.

how many of you see on a near day to day basis the have a go tree surgeon / gardener? No PPE shorts trainers one hand on a ground saw from a ladder poor work man ship etc etc

Do you take pictures? should you? and then put them on the internet to try and hinder them trading? because in my eyes they shouldn't be doing that work if there not qualified to do so. we all have to go out spend grands on kit, insurance training etc.

this is not a jab at being under cut buy them or losing work to them because there welcome to it just promotes using a pro in the first place.

whats everyones thoughts on the "rouge trader"

I (think) I get the frustration you're expressing (if I read it right from your text)

I too used to get frustrated by losing a job (esp if it's to a clown or a job that I really fancied.)

But, with time, I've come to realise that it's actually the customer that is responsible for choosing the outfit that will do their work. If the customer is ignorant or disinterested in standards or focussed solely on price, the reality is, I don't actually want to do their work and so everyone gets want they want in the end!

Let them pay cheap and get shat on while you have a beer and think about the next job! :001_rolleyes::001_tt2::laugh1:
