I'd say you'd need an ally body for that payload.

The single cab LDV tippers were as light as they come really (metal costs money after all!?) and with the usual Brit Tipp steel tipper body they have around 1400kgs payload.

Yep, I used to have Ally sides on mine

What 3.5t truck would people say were built to take more weight then what they were plated at.

Unfortunately most of the time we are all driving overloaded but it would be good to have a truck that is within its safe working limit, to take an extra ton even if it is not legal.

Does anyone know if the Isuzu 3.5 ton tipper is such a truck.

I've never driven an Isuzu so can't comment. I've had both Transits and Cabstars and Cabstars definitely carry the weight better and look less overloaded.

I have bought one recently. It should turn up the week after next once the conversion is complete. I’m going to get it weighed to see what payload I have left to play with. I reckon I’ll still need to reserve 300kg for 2 people and tools.

Yes our steel tipper bodied LDV with the Duratec engine weighed 2100 empty but with half a tank of fuel. None of our mk 6 or 7 transit tippers were that light and the two arb bodied ones where 2700 unladen.
