Depends on what bit you want to break . If you want the lower AV spring to bend and the techlite bar to come apart but a good cutting saw when its new go for the Husky . If you want the top handle to break and not cut any better than your knob go for the Stihl ....Choice is yours

I'd go for the 201t, the newer ones cut way better than the early ones, the top handle is weak on the rear AV mount, but a new ones only £9 and easy to fit yourself, also if it does break you can continue using the saw until you get chance to sort it.

The 540t cuts well but the build quality is utter rubbish!!, mines had a new tank/handle assembly (£40) and now the rear AV mount has shaped and the spring is not even stretched.

I use both, in stock form, and I also own a muff modded 201t. I much prefer the stihl.

Yes, the Husqy has more power, but not heaps more. The Stihl feels much better built, will last, and is simpler to fix. I also dislike how the Husqy needs choke if it's been off for more than a minute, and the lack of a master control bugs me.

They're both good saws, and with a muffler mod the difference in power isn't vast.

I keep hearing that the newer 201s are much better saws than the gutless thing that first appeared.

I'm really happy with my 540 though, about 4 months in.

The tech lite bar is weak, I'd look to swap that out at purchase now.

For the record, you can't buy anyone 'topping saw' until you have obtained your tickets.

Or you will go to prison.

Used a couple of 201s in the last month a standard one and a modded one both could not keep up with a new 200t the 540 does... Maybe it's slightly faster as well.
