Wood burning stove with back boiler

Last year we fitted a Stovax Stockton 16. It heats our large, isolated farm house and does all the hot water as well. We run it into one of the four coils in the thermal store. The plumbing was expensive as we plumbed in the oil boiler into another coil. We use an immersion in the third coil and have not yet fitted a solar thermal system to the fourth coil. We are fully renovated and it keeps the place very cosy. The output is 15kw into the water and 7 into the room. We have not bought any oil since. You will need a serious amount of well seasoned logs, soft or hard wood. Good luck

Can you retro fit a thermal store to allow the heating to be used early mornings?

We have a multifuel Rayburn and using anthracite until we get some free wood off Arbtalk. Need some near HP23 4QU please.

It does all the hotwater, radiators, cooking etc in winter. In summer we use electric immersion heater for hot water or just use electric shower.

How much would a thermal store cost to retrofit?

I'd be interested to know roughly how many logs you get through in a month or a year or whatever? Thanks.

Using anthracite but want FREE wood? Once again...

Cut split and stacked neatly too?

Anyway, interesting reading for a future project, thanks AT members for your input into this!

Can a wood boiler stove be used to hear water into a domestic hot water tank or is an accumulator required?

The boiler stove will work in tandem with the current boiler and mains pressure sealed system mainly in the winter when it is on.

Trying to keep the cost down as accumulators are expensive.

Talk to a decent plumber. Some can work on pressurised systems but most cant and there is no way to vent steam from the stove in the event of an electricty cut so no water pumping. They can work in tandem with a suitable boiler.

The Esse 990CHQ is able to as I think is the Morso DB15. Not sure about the Stratfords and Villagers. Both these need an additional cold water feed from the mains and a water drain. In the event of the stove overheating cold water from the mains is fed through the water jacket within the stove and out through a waste pipe to outside the building usually.

Just fitted alpha 3

Saw it in shop and came home and checked reviews all 5*

now installed and running

Seems very good, heating large ( 4 bed ) farmhouse

Extra radiators going in next week

Plumber seemed very interested as he's finding cost of oil too high and he's been looking for suitable stove - he seemed impressed as its solid and simple

Time will tell if I've got it right

OK cheers. Looking at stovesonline there a few newer stoves that can be connected to a sealed unvented system now. Will find a plumber and have a chat.
