What finishing oil to use?

I have used a company called that I thought was called Timbertec, can't seem to find them on the internet!! Anyway was pretty impressed with the finish and seem to remember that they produce an oil that can be used to finish wooden sinks for kitchens so I'd say that it would fit your purpose perfectly...... not much use I know but will try to remember and post up here.

As for the safeness of other products I would try to get hold of the COSHH and data sheets for each one, they should give you all the info you need to find out if it will melt your teeth/kill you slowly etc :) You should be able to download them from the respective companies website or request them. I believe they have to supply them by law.

Any of the cooking nut oils would probebly do the job and be safe

Great would love to know the name of the company. Keep me posted please bud 👍

I would avoid boiled linseed. The driers are metal salts and not exactly pleasant. Not sure what they are using these days but it used to be cobalt which is relatively carcinogenic. This has probably changed, but still unlikely to be good.

I wasn't far off...... the product is called 'Timbertect plus' or it might have been the 'Worktop seal'.... both supplied by conservation chemicals limited.

I seem to remember the first time I used it I just gave them a call and asked for some samples and then sent a whole pack including all you need to apply and finish. You can download instruction sheets from there website too.

great company to deal with and very friendly.

Hi, I looked into this a couple of years ago, just as a general wood treatment for stuff that`s outside and was warned off linseed oil as it is apt to get mildew, Tung oil is great stuff though and is safe with food , in fact I think [from memory?? ] its recommended for it ,anyway there`s loads of info online. Cheers.
