I remember once a large windblown came down in the churchyard behind my parents house, I turned up by chance for a coffee and one of their neighbour's (local firewood hunter) approached me asking if I could get his saw out as he had pinched it in this tree??? I had a look and questioned him as to what he was doing and was he supposed to be there, he said he had called the landowner and they said crack on.. he had a stihl with a 14" bar (the tree was a good 30" across)

I ended up going to get my gear, cleared the tree and trimmed the branches that had penetrated graves etc , got my tractor up there to remove the wood which went to the neighbour's and made a pile of brash out of the way, all in heavy rain.. local farmer and another firewood hunter turned up as I finished and commented on the mess that the tree had made to graves etc..

week or so later they had a section in the parish mag thanking the neighbour for all his hard work..

not even a mention of me

I'm starting some local churchyard work this next week or so. Funding had to be applied for from the Diocese as the parish has no real money, the attendance is down to about 6 these days, and diminishing fast. But the money is there, at the diocese! the PCCs just have to ask. So never feel you can't charge properly.
