7-4 in the winter doing tree work , leaf clearance etc .

5-9 working in b&q

 

Then 7-dark in the summer doing tree work

Wow. Pension, tax and NI paid? No doubt tax credits on top and can get second job?

Far out. How did we get from second jobs to striking firemen? I'm with Gnome on this one. And maybe some more drilling bling or whatever it was from Mac.

 

First job is supervising arborist for the local district council. That means everything from paper work, H&S through to pick up sticks.

 

Weekend work is, well, supervising arborist for my own company. Usually a six and half day week. I'd love to do something else but don't know what. in an ideal world I'd love to do Landscape photography full time and get paid for the pleasure of my hobby.

That's a lot more than a band five staff nurse gets who does long hard hours and has to have a degree under their belt and who doesn't have time or the energy for a second job

Exactly!!

 

For me its a simple matter of supply and demand, the firefighters strike a few years back was about wanting more pay, they were upset that tube drivers were on £34K and they were on under £25K, BUT the pay for tube drivers had risen in order to attract enough staff.

 

There is no shortage of people wanting to join the brigade on the current rates, so what possible justification is there for higher rates?

 

It could be argued that rates should be dropped until only the required numbers apply, as happens in the real economy to those who run their own business.
