Squillions?

I don't think so.

It's very rare that I see a home user wearing ppe, or using cuts suitable to the task in hand, and saw maintenance is laughable.

The vast majority of home users are nothing like safe.

I was recently asked to look at a home saw which "smelt hot" and was smoking. He knew nothing about 2 stroke or chain oil (or PPE).

The saw was bought from our nearest Stihl dealer and wrecked within the day. Value added over mail order? Nil.

It doesn't really matter. There are many thousands who own a saw for occasional use for cutting firewood or the odd tree. I own many tools for my own occasional use. I haven't got 'tickets' for circular saws or whatever. I'm probably as likely to hurt myself with them as an amateur chainsaw user is with a saw.

That's a bit below the belt , it's Stihl with the problem , not Scotland .

My apologies to you and all things Caledonian, its just the way this pathetic thread made me feel, if you read the original post it could be read,

a punter walked into my shop and I managed to sell him a more expensive product

And most at full retail, it seems it's only us UK that discounts heavy. :001_smile:

I bought about €3.5k worth of stihl saws in one hit a while ago from a Dutch dealer.

I went round and spoke to 7 or 8 different dealers before going back to my local one who did me the best deal:

I got a free hat, and 2.5% off rrp...

All the others would not budge from rrp, even when I told them I'd need to put another much bigger order in that same year....

Added a great deal to the seller though if the saw gets replaced:lol::lol::lol:

Yes you might hurt yourself, but a chainsaw + no ppe + no training can easily = death.

Not likely with a Skilsaw.
