One day the powers that be will decide that your current CS units need to be replaced, like the 'old blue book'. Perhaps, because there was little or no instruction in how to blow your whistle correctly, or because no mention is made of the need to empty your bowels before you erect the tree.

More common sense and less red tape is what's needed.

Agree, I assume these refreshers won't be free neither. That would be more of an incentive, but I'm not lining someone else's pocket AGAIN just so they can tick my box.

Refreshers aren't free now, but lining someone else's pockets isn't as bad if the costs are easier to recoup by making it harder for competition by having a select few who can continue with the work

We should then, it would eliminate a lot of competition, it would also reduce the saturation of our industry

I agree but how do we make it happen??

Saturation is mainly caused be colleges churning out students, some good, some ok and some rubbish. It was my experience at college in the early 90's that even the rubbish students got their tickets, as it reflected badly on the college's if not a lot of people passed. I'm talking about more than one college here.

Very few colleges offer the tickets now without paying the full price and doing the course as normal.

And the only way we can sort out the over-saturation is by dreaded legislation, refreshers, updates, standardisation and organisations, with the AA being capable of setting a standard. Every other trade has a union to represent them, why not forestry and arboriculture?

I think for my situation tree quip is spot on, what has it got to do with the power company if I'm working for a private client? All I want is the line making safe, we arnt going to hit it while dismantling the tree. I did a job where we got network rail in to supervise as tree was next to railway but in customers garden and they Never asked for anything. I will question the power co about on what grounds they are saying this.

A union. The thought appalls me. Paying a subscription to union bosses who are on a good earner, with nothing better to do than cause trouble and strife. Not for me.
