What's my dead elm worth?

What are the main stems like? Are they worth milling (ie, are they straight, relatively free of branches and not looking as if they are rotten)?

If so, I would be keen to have the opportunity to make an offer on them rather than them being wasted for firewood.

If you could post photos, that would be an enormous help.

Apart from me being wrong bout elm here I did kinda suggest milling right at the start as elm has nice grain ,least the elm I know It maybe worth posting pics.

I so agree that if the wood full of nails etc then well the air will be blue lol

I take it they are standing.......If they dead then snags are a p i a .....also if the space is tight then that'll add to it

If I was closer and there was the space I'd put the s o b's on the floor for ya

This thread is worthless without pics! Let's have them!

On an aside, I think you're making too much of a faff in regards to wanting larch rather than elm (and it would probably be the other way round down South!). Wood burns, water doesn't. Log the lot up for £300 and it's going to be cheaper than buying logs, save yourself buying firewood for a few years.

I know I'd not want to mess around swapping logs with a customer, or if they wanted me to there'd need to be a hefty 'exhange rate mechanism' in my favour  Half the cost is loading and unloading.

As Luck would have it, our neighbour has a Tree surgeon/ firewood seller in at the moment.

I had a chat with him and he told me

He pays £55 per tonne for hard wood

He reckons I have about 10 tonnes, which is in line with what one of the guys on this thread suggested.

He sells hardwood at £100 per cubic metre

So it's worth more to me than it is to him. So question answered.

He reckoned I might get 25m3 out of them, which would be good.

Will post some pics

Well, a small log bag from the garage is about 7quid, therefor your trees are worth about 14k, but being hardwood and not softwood, your trees are a premium product, so add 25% so your trees are worth about £17,500

Hope this helps :)
