"When does a person become a Tree Surgeon?"

When the landscapings gone quiet, theres no grass to cut, no-one wants a new fence, all the hedges are trimmed and the drives are power washed, gutters are cleaned out, short walls, patios and decking are finished, etc, etc, etc......

Or they seem to doing round our way anyway! :001_tongue:

They're all at it, were tripping over the beggars, after all its easy isn't it? All you need is a bloody saw! And they charge a fortune, they're raking it in ......

Your a Trainee Tree Surgeon when you start out and get NPTC or similar.

When you can take a tree down in a professional and safe manner, carry out tree work which doesn't harm the tree, reduce a tree to a standard where it's difficult for the untrained eye to tell it's been reduced and be able to give the client the correct advice, then you are a Tree Surgeon.

After that you can progress on to become an Arborist when you gain formal qualifications :001_smile:

Probably about sums it up for me :001_smile:

Whats wrong with the term tree surgeon anyway?

Its just a general term otherwise I would be a tree feller, tree pruner, tree dismantler, tree planter, tree checker outer, tree inspector and of course a tree butcher :001_smile:

Anyhow I'm an Arborist because it says so on my business card :001_tongue:

So......when can a person ligitimately call themselves a tree surgeon??

CS 30/31/38/39,? or do you need more than that?

Do you expect the title to mean a lot more than basic training? How much peripheral knowledge is a tree surgeon expected to have.

To me, a surgeon is an expert, or at the very least, somebody who can safely prune or take down a mature tree and give correct basic advice on tree care.

There are too many cowboys out there with a bowsaw and a ladder, definitely, but at what point during the NPTC training can somebody be considered to have earned their stripes?

Opinions please.

all you need is a signwriter:001_smile:
