The trouble is not having the correct tickets, is when the s..t hits the fan and hse get involved. How many company's do you see advertising for employes for any sort of chainsaw work without any certs. None. Totally agree that experience is key but I'am afraid we have to have tickets now

Well, for my part, I done a 10week course and was told I'd never make it commerically :blushing: even though I never intended to be some Billy Whizz climber just to be competant enough to run my own company.

Now we take on jobs far and above the few basic certs I carry.:thumbup1:

After all, who is out there regulating it all anyway?:confused1:

Ty

The hse , it's great working without tickets untill an accident happens , I have done ur just like all of us :)

How so Mark? I've always been under the impression that was the case?

I'm not down on tickets, nor should anyone be. Sure its a "cover your arse" factor for employers and insurance, but if they weren't needed for commercial work can you imagine the amount of untrained people trying their hand at something they have no understanding or experience of? I know we already get a few anyway but I think its a positive thing that anyone starting out in this industry at least knows the basic h&s elements.

That said...

It seems that every apprentice I work with will insist on snapping the chainbrake on at full revs! Its exactly how I was taught too, and it bugs the hell out of me!

O.K,

In the U.K, is it actually 'illegal' to do tree work without the prerequisite NPTC certs to prove your competance...?

Ty

My understanding is that you need to be trained and competent. How you prove that without formal training I don't know.
