Nose job by Stihl

Done myself a mischeif last week :) I was dragging some brash to the chipper with my right hand whilst carrying the saw with my left(running but brake on). I stumbbled backwards and landed on my backside. The helmet came off and the bar of the saw hit me in the face. I gathered myself and stood up to quickly realize i was leaking!! I thought id bust my nose so i pinched it at the bridge and started walking back to the pickup. I was a bit puzzled because it didn't stop bleeding :confused1: i had a look in the wing mirror to find i'd opened up my nose good and propper!! One of the teeth had cut clean through the bit inbetween my nostrils leaving it a bit flappy Daniella westbrook style :001_smile: I also had a gaping cut on my right cheek about 2" long but 1/4" wide.

I drove myself down to the hospital and went into a+e where i was seen to quite quickly. They refered me to plastic sergery and set about stitching my nose up. I can honestly say it was the best and quickest A+E visit i'v ever had!!! I was out and back on the job by 2pm :001_smile::001_smile:

Some people will do anything for a nose job on the NHS!

Glad to hear that it wasn't more serious - make sure to post some before and afters once you are healed up so we, the public, can judge as to whether it was all worth it!

Glad you're on the mend!

Could have easily been so much worse; if the brake had been off or faulty. Despite what the HSE think, accidents can happen and there's not always someone who must be blamed. But maybe next time put the saw aside while dragging bash to the chipper.

Yeah i think it's one of them instances in life that just happen. I've been operating saws for near 15yrs now and this is the first time i've been bitten by one. I'm not letting it faze me because i know i have a safe working practice and my gear is maintained. It could have been a silky or a spade or a long list of other implements.

If think HSE has it's place but when it takes longer to fill in the paperwork tick the boxes cross the t's and dot the i's than it does to actually do the job it has gone way to far in my opinion.

Good attitude to take. Sure it gives you a scare. As you say it could have been any number of things. But they do give you a nasty bite don't they!!!!:001_cool:

Lucky. Another inch or two up and it would have been worse.

Like you say things happen, no amount of hse could of prevent it exept putting the saw down. But then we have all done it, walked carrying more than we should to save time or trips going back and fourth.

I found that going to a and e if they know you are self employed they will help a lot quicker. But I would never go during a Friday night.

Heal quick.

Heal quick mate, good heads-up.

In the same vain I can't stand saws being put down with the bar vertical since a mate slipped and filleted his palm on a badly placed saw on a busy site.

Lay it on it's side, saves scuffing the bar tip as well.
