In a world where we can choose between thirty-six superb chainsaws, a myriad of ascenders, bags and bags of wondrous climbing ropes, harnesses, slings, spikes, boots, tipper trucks, mogs, MEWPs, chippers and grinders, has anyone come across The Holy Grail?

A decent wheelbarrow.

One in the shed with a flat tyre. Check. One with a solid tyre rusted to crumbs. Check. Two piled up ready for the scrap man. Yep. One with logs in, slow puncture, squeaky wheel. Right. Several inner tubes, cracked tyres, bent frames. Nothing you'd say actually does the job, hassle free.

I've been waiting to post a real burner of a thread. Will this be my chance?

You got a barrow to be proud of? I'm talking: lasts more than a year; doesn't fall apart when looked at sideways; does all you ask of it, comes back wanting more. If so, let's see evidence, brand, price, pictures, maintenance schedules, tips and wrinkles.

Over to you.

The Haemmerlin Green Standard Metal wheelbarrow

The Haemmerlin Green Standard is a construction grade heavy duty wheelbarrow that is also suitable for domestic and garden tasks. The 32mm diameter frame makes the wheelbarrow well balanced, the 90 litre pan capacity is ideal for most uses and the metal disc 4.00 x 8 wheel gives additional strength.

The French made Haemmerlin Green Standard wheelbarrow is fitted with a pneumatic wheel and is ideal for both hard or soft surfaces.

Green painted metal pan and frame

Rigid 32mm tubular frame

Anti-slip handles

Large pneumatic tyre for use on all terrain types

90 litre load capacity

Metal disc 4.00 x 8 wheels for additional strength

Designed to be stored outdoors

No idea what we pay for them as a shiny new one appears every couple of years.

Liberally soak them in baby oil and read them a bedtime story if you want to.

I just rinse them out and stick them in my polytunnel.

We have a Trallnor wheelbarrow. It is fully galvanized has real bearing on the wheel and is well balanced. I don't abuse it as it is quite light but no problems so far. Down side is it was the best part of £80 so needs to last a fair old while to earn it's keep.

I would second Gnome on the Hammerlin. Last year I wore one out after 10yrs of hard use, including using it to mix concrete in, carrying bricks, barrowloads of earth, large, heavy bits of wood lashed to the top etc. I finally wore through the skip where the shovel digs.

Bought a new one from Travis Perkins. Old one now consigned to carrying larger solids, which I'm sure it will manage for a few more years. Never had a puncture, still holds air for about a year at a time.

I agree wholeheartedly with the OP

Wheelbarrows are proper crap.

The wheels are even crappier.

I want a teflon coated titanium (for strength and lightness) wheelbarrow with Kevlar reinforced (puncture proof) tyre, that will not scuff the tub and sufficiently long shafts stiffly fabricated from carbon fibre, (sufficiently long that is for my tincy wincy size 8's to clear the feet without waddling like a duck)

With an industructable edge formed from super duper reinforced composite to strike a spade or shovel on so as to remove our super sticky clay.

Heated handles and electric assistence to the wheel would be nice too:lol:

With interchangable bodies for either bulk material, logs or flags/kerbs

Not much to ask is it.

Mr. Dyson if you produce such an article, as described above, I will even forgive you the Ball Barrow.:001_tt2:

In the meantime I suppose I will research that green French wheelbarrow.

Tratiors.

I think we've got them down to around 30 quid.... I'm due a new one as 5 years of living outside, 3 months being used by the (rough arsed) builders on my extension and all that entails, endless weeks, seasons even, being sat in the rain full of rotting garden cuttings and water, numerous trips back and forth having brick ends thrown in to / at it, not to mention being dropped loaded off planks up skips, have taken something of a toll on my poor old barrow. The 2 fixings at the back of the pan have rotted out.

I shall definitely be getting another!
