I have just added up my gas I'll for this year, £1500 ish!

I have a 2 bedroom semi detached and that's with a log fire heating 2 rooms.

I keep meaning to get a log burner installed, I wasn't going to bother with radiators as we have a combi boiler, and have heard that can be tricky to work together. Although I have heard of a centraliser.

Your thoughts please and an idea of your gas bills would be appreciated if you don't mind sharing:001_smile:

My gas bill for the first six months - £422.84

My Gas bill up untill now (% and a half months) £00.00

I was so fed up with the bills and problems with the boiler that i had the boiler removed and a woodwarm stove fitted into the front room which powers 5 radiators and does the hot water , the house has a totally different feel to it and the warmth is a real warmth unlike the central heating.

I had looked at keeping the gas boiler but was advised of the complexity and cost in setting up a wood burner that integrates with the gas system so i never bothered as it woud take me in excess of 6 years to recoup the money spent

I looked into the equaliser thing but it was more bother than it was worth for a small property so I just fitted a second set of radiators on the wood burner.

It dropped the gas bill so much that the gas people sent someone out to check I wasnt fiddling the meter

4 bed victorian town house with no double glazing and 9ft celings and my gas bill for the year was £270.

Stovax 7 heats the house roasty toasty open fires draw to much of the warm air up the chimney and cause draughts, bite the bullet and get a stove Mr Blair :thumbup1:

No gas here, our Aga uses about £900 of anthracite per year, only for cooking and heating the kitchen and adjacent room. Emerson heater for hot water in summer. Out door boiler for heating and hot water in winter, house is 30c+ all winter.

Electric bill is around £1200 per year, but that with two 50" tv's and 6 of us in the house with most of the lights on most of the time.

My gas bill was very similar last year, fitted a 5kw log burner last september and cut the gas bill by half, burner paid fror itself and more in under 6 months. Only have the gas heating on now for a hour or so for upstairs.
