Hate to say it but probably, what part of the country are you in? It's rife everywhere round here (east anglia).

The Ash are very late this year, lets hope it just a sign we are in for a great summer.

I wish I could share your optimism ( I do for the great summer but not the late ash☹️), they've been greening up later and thinning in the crowns year on year, we did a coppice block of mainly hornbeam with about 20% ash in January and ALL the ash had knackered crowns that disintegrated when they hit the deck, saved on a bit o clearing up though

The trees are in Tonbridge Kent. Some look ok but many looking dreadful. I'll take some more pics in a couple of weeks so we can see.

The ash are generally looking weedy down here near Ashford as well Duncan.

I've never known them so late or at least so far behind the Oak.

There are a load of reasons why ash trees look unwell, but that first one in particular does look like dieback. Given that they are in Kent it's pretty much a dead cert I'm afraid.

If that's DED then you should be seeing a lot of symptomatic saplings too (in the same vicinity) and they are much easier to diagnose. Any symptoms of rapid necrosis on non-shaded, and otherwise healthy growth is a good give away.

No difference at all in last two years in terms of budding and coming on leaf
