If the guy has no funds then getting a court order does not mean you will get paid. Next stage is to ask the court to appoint a bailiff who then goes into the debtor and seizes goods such as TVs etc to be sold at action.

If the invoice is in the name of the bloke and he says the TV etc belongs to his wife then things may get dodgy.

If the bloke has a job the court can serve his employer with a Garnishee order, this forces the employer to pay all monies owed to your debtor to the court.

In my experience magistrates court bailiffs are worthless.

However if the judgement is for more than £600 you can transfer it up to the High Court for collection by proper bailiffs. It's really easy to do and very effective.

isnt there a law or ruling somewhere that if a debt isnt paid in a year and a day, then its voided? I seem to remember this cropping up a few years back, so it may be different now. As far as the client is concerned in this instance, I'm sure he could have paid this off by now, or offered a settlement of around 50%. Maybe thats what I'd say to him. 50% payment, clear his name, then erase him from your client base.

How does that explain councils chasing people for the poll tax 10years after it was ended...?
