Big scary dismantling job

This was a tall (34m/110ft) twin stemmed northofagus. Tightly included main stems with decay within the union and bark missing. Has been getting worse for several years.

I was not familiar with the species and not at all comfortable with with the amount of movement in the stems or the quantity of old tear out wounds. Rigging was kept to a minimum just to avoid smashing the path and other specimen trees.

Watch it full screen in hd

Really nice video mate. Looked like a lovely day for it.

Edit. Was this the tree from the thread a while back? Was she stronger or weaker than you suspected it would be?

Yeah its the tree I chicken out of climbing all the way up. I would have had to climb into those tops I felled and rigged out and I just could not get up there.

It was soft and brittle like I knew it would be, but it was much more wobbly than I feared it would be.
