I feel that this is a good point at which to bring up my old pet campaign for all season tyres.

 

They're the difference between not being able to move or control your car and being able to go about your daily life, albeit a touch more slowly.

The bassist in my band was expecting his first child a week ago. Having seen the forecast, I nearly remarked to him that he should shoe his car in winter tyres, just in case the child should present itself at an inopportune moment. Then I remembered he's young so wouldn't take my advice anyway so I didn't bother.

One day later, snow. One day after that, the child. He made it to the hospital, peering through a pane of ice but he hadn't stacked the odds in his favour.

Winter tyres were a revelation on the Skoda, Continentals from recall, but since the car came factory fitted with(no doubt long life) hard compound  ditch-finder Turenzas, anything else round and black would have been an improvment. I did run the winter tyres done over the summer when they got a bit worn, and in conscience I never noticed any difference, except they probably wear out a bit faster due to the softer compound, but compared to owning and swopping a second of rims and tyres, prob cost effective to run even proper winter tyres the year round, so I will probably compromise and fit all seasons to the Rav4 when she needs new boots.

Think Liz has proper winter tyres and not all season tyres. Still leave them on all year

Run winter tyres all year round, actually found the summer tyres wore quicker as used to swap over, now can't be arsed.

Had a couple of inches of snow here tonight. Mayhem over Ashdown Forest. Cars off the road and lots parked up couldn’t make it up the hill. 
 

A sad state of affairs. Probably most snow we’ve had in about 10 years. Mustn’t grumble 😠

The Beast from the East in 2018 would be the last time there was snow like this for most of the UK.

 

Still, it all seems faintly comical to folk here when the UK grinds to a halt on 2 inches of the white stuff. Nothing really changes here much except that the Swedes spend more time outside when it's snowy. There is a real sense of excitement about the ski slope opening, and I haven't met a single person here that prefers a plus degrees winter.

What I hate is when there is the a bit of snow drivers seem to feel the need to drive in the middle of the road rather than their side ans you then end up with a narrow band , in the center , that you can drive on . You then get confused people who meet each other head on . I deliberately keep to my side of the road trying to show others , from my tier tracks where to be but it never works .

Uh-oh; I'm heading that way in half an hour from Maresfield; need to get to near Brasted

It's just started snowing again, albeit gently. 

 

This was from the drive to Vetlanda this morning, just before the snow started. No problems at all, even with the 5m box trailer I have on the back.
