Yip, it’s a fair point, it is a shame that they don’t get the same level of technical work as we used to get in the 70’s at school.  I suppose there is various reasons for this, over zealous H&S, teacher knowledge and investment in tooling to name the first three that spring to my mind.

An undervaluing of technical skills, and today's appetite for consuming stuff rather than creating and making things. To add a couple more reasons.

Just recently on our local village facebook page there has been umpteen people asking if there is anyone in the village who fixes punctures on bikes. It infuriates me that people cant do this a very simple task for themselves. Basic knowledge of any small repairs will soon be a long gone thing.

Crazy isn't it? I've seen plenty of ads asking for people to do similarly basic tasks.
On the plus side; those of us who still do possess practical skills should be able to make some easy money in future.

Certainly bodes well for anyone starting up a handyman business. However it is a sad reflection of a lot of people's basic hand skills, not many kids pottering about in a garage with their dad anymore, which is how probably a lot of us were brought up.

That's how I was brought up . Tinkering with Dad . Basic stuff like oil change and filter , mending a fuse , puncture on the push bike , all normal stuff back then . Not so today .

We had a gokart on farm that dad made for us with a suffolk punch engine on it. Was about 12 i think at the time and it wouldnt start one day, so i stripped into a thousand bits to try and fix it [emoji16]….. never ran again! 🤣🤣 he wasnt happy!!!
