But it will only be ticking over and if your ears work you will know it's still running and hold it to stop again.

Right, and it's not the primary safety device anyway. At speed the kill switch won't stop the chain and at idle the chain shouldn't be moving.

I've used a couple saws with inoperative kill switches and had to use the choke to switch them off. (281 and 372)

That's right, that would be the brake and if you're having an emergency with the saw you should have let go of the trigger by now

It’s one of the ten mandatory safety items, a switch that is clearly marked and stops the engine, not stops it, and dependant on rpm and whether you hold it on, it stops the engine, I was just pointing out why these switch’s are not fitted to certain saws, anyway end of subject.

I get what you're saying and not trying to argue with you. Just interested in understanding it and how the switch/diode system works.

Either way, i'm not endorsing it, or anything else i do to my saws, just showing what i've done. As i said, i'm picky and like things my way. 🙂

No... But good effort though and sharpen the dogs before you put them on or you will scuff the cases 😳 K

Oh gawd, can't be dealing with scuffed cases!

One last point, that switch has such a high failure rate that the hire companies are now replacing them for the manual switch on brush cutters, hedge trimmers, and I have seen plenty on the T540, so it will be interesting to see how long they last.

Going by the amount my saws get used at the moment they'll probably outlast me by a few hundred years. ☹

Here is a bit of vintage chainsaw porn for ADW, I know he likes his old Huskys. A local dealer had it in for three months, did nothing and think he was looking for the AT port to diagnose the issue....bless him!!

It is in pretty good condition, just needed a tank flush, new fuel filter, carb clean and plug then a retune and bingo, nice running machine!
