thanks spud i think i went to a wrong parts diagram on google for 254 it only came up with the linkage not the insert

obviously somebody's been using this saw a long time like this

Waiting for a piston kit to come for an ms260, the owner has run it with the wrong mix ratio (guessing at 50:1) and a subbie had blunted the saw then dogged in to ring up some logs. So the engine is now cooked, but will clean up nicely.

Always keep a saw sharp! And if the inevitable happens, don't continue and force it through logs!

Hey, got a ms 201t with a chain brake band that keeps sliping into the path of the chain, blunting it on side and cutting is perfect circles. I have replaced the band and it happened again, has anybody seen it and had a genius way to repaired it or does my boss have to go out and buy a whole new case? Pictures to help. Any guidance greatly appresiated.

If it's happened with more than one band, it sounds like a misformed or warped casing, you need a new clutch cover, which can be bought as just the white plastic, and transfer all the internals over

Someone with better knowledge than me on ms200's will know but isnt there meant to be some pads between the cover and brake band to eliminate the free play so when the band is open it rest on them to stop the movement?

Stihl tend to have them on similar size "normal" (not top handle) saws.

It looks like that MS201 cover has seen some heat from the brake band rubbing on the clutch drum, I reckin it has disorted the moulding that holds the band making it ride out with use.

 

Looks like new cover time!

Hi Joe, she's going good only had her out few times but already knocked a good hole in the firewood pile hope the 357 does you well she was always a good saw when running
