Hacked website

My website has been hacked, google have put a warning above it in the search results, it has been checked and there isn't any Malware, it just says it has, I am waiting for google to check out my hosts report on the matter, I never thought anything like this would happen to a tree cutters website.

I have already had a customer call me about it and who knows how much work I might be loosing. Has this happened to anyone else and can you take legal action if we find out who did it ?

Very common mate I'm afraid.

Some people do it for gain i.e hidden links, redirects, use your site to host/share illegal stuff whilst others do it for fun (just cos they can).

Hopefully your host has a decent back-up for you and you can revert to a clean one ASAP. One thing I would check though is to find out how the hack occurred.

I suspect it will be virtually impossible to track the culprit...difficult enough to get stolen plant back, imagine what its like trying to catch a cyber-nerd.!!

I had a company hosting my site unless I made alot of changes it would cost £60 for the year. I made none but 6 months later got an invoice demanding a further £178 . I refused within a week my site was gone and a debt recovery agency on my case. They registered my website in their name and redirected all my traffic to a plant company they owned. It took about 3 years to snatch my web address back at 12 oclock at night. The debt recovery agency backed off when they realised the hosting company were crooks. Nearly 5 years later I am still getting grief from these cyber geeks. Moral of the story is dont upset cyber geeks and make sure your virus protection is top notch right now. We had a bucket load of malware last week on both our computers and it cost over £100 to get it sorted.

I run a couple of sites and both got hacked a couple of months back, to make things worse I hadn't checked them for a while and from the changed files they had altered they were hacked nearly a week previous.

I now check the sites every day.

I might be teaching you to suck eggs but the free versions of these 2 normaly stop most of that.
